In 1992, Russell Tierney was supplying sub-contracting fitting services to the mining industry and saw the possibility of expanding his service. With his wife, Diane, Russell purchased a small operation called Boulder Boilermaking in which he saw potential for improvement. Tierney Contracting Pty Ltd was born.

From 1992 to 1995 Tierney Contracting Pty Ltd supplied the complete maintenance labour workforce to the Oroya Treatment Plant at Fimiston. During this period the operations of this newly formed company expanded from servicing one mine to seven mines. The labour workforce increased from 5 permanent employees to 35 employees.

In late 1995 Oroya was decommissioned, which left an uncertain future for the company; however, contracts were gained and the company traded profitably.

In 1997 Tierney Contracting Pty Ltd secured a major contract at Mt. Todd with Pegasus Gold for modifications to the new plant; this was a major boost for the company in a time when the market was in a slump.

In 1998 the industry was still in a slump; however, on reduced turnover profitability was maintained.

Today, Tierney Contracting Pty Ltd. is well known throughout the Goldfields region for providing a high level of service to mine sites with 24-hour cover for on site services and breakdowns.  

The company has also secured work in the lower Murchison region of Western Australia and in the Eastern Goldfields and as far away as Mt. Todd, which is 300 kms south of Darwin. The company mainly targets the gold and nickel mining industries for its work, but will also contract to other industries when the opportunity presents itself.  

Tierney Contracting Pty Ltd has earned itself an excellent reputation of which we are very proud - providing the best quality trades people available, with the right supervision, to complete all tasks safely.  The efficient utilization of labour thus effectively lowers costs overall for the company's clients within time frames suiting the mining activity.
